Of Mice And Men - RR Pg 1-13

So far in this novel George and Lennie appear to be a couple of nomads who travel looking for whatever they can get for work. Lennie is a mentally handicapped and clearly unstable man whereas George is a very caring man who chooses to look after Lennie even though it causes him much grief. The two men are currently headed to try to get work at a nearby town. Lennie has this weird mouse fetish and he enjoys stroking them more than anything else in the world... even if they're dead; this a very unhealthy habit. George allows him to keep the mice but only for a short period of time as when they begin to deteriorate they become diseased and could get both of the men killed. George is now beginning to get quite frustrated with Lennie and is bringing his anger out and unloading on Lennie which makes him feel horrible that he is causing so much pain to his loyal companion George.
